Trekking in Bhandardara

About trekking in Bhandardara:

Ratangad
Bhandardara provides ample options to tourists when it comes to trekking. It is considered to be one of the most challenging treks in the vicinity. Here we are talking about one of the highest peaks in Sahyadri Mountains, Mount Kalsubai which is located at Bhandardara. Mount Kalsubai is one of the tallest peak on the Sahyadri mountain range and thus provides one of the challenging treks. But once you reach there you stand tall looking at the picturesque valley of Sahyadris and Bhandardara. Bhandardara is one of the favorite options among trekkers, you could say a Trekker's paradise.

Mount Kalsubai
One can climb Ratangad or Harishchandragad Fort for regular treks, or you could even climb the Ajoba or Ghaanchakkar peaks just by following trails. If you are up for a challenge, then trek Mount Kalsubai! The starting point for this trek is Bari Village which is around 12 km from Bhandardara.

Suggestion for trekking Mount Kalsubai:

Ideally one should reach Igatpuri the earlier day to start an early trek on Mount Kalsubai. One can stay in overnight at the MTDC dormitories made available for trekkers. What you can do is reach Bari Village by taking an early morning bus from Igatpuri. Try to reach Bari as early as possible. Once in Bari, start your trek which will take you to the top of the peak within the next three hours. Once on the peak enjoy the view. There is a small temple that you pass along the way. Also there is a small temple of Kalsubai on the top of the peak.

From the peak one can see Bhandardara backwaters, Ratangad, Brahmagiri, Harishchandragad and the whole Sahyadri Mountain range towards the north side of the peak.

Please note: It is ideal to carry enough drinking water with you as there is no arrangement of potable water on the peak. There is a well on the top of the peak, but one can't guarantee the availability of water especially during summers.
