Located at an altitude of 13940 feet above sea level, Pangong Tso Lake is one of the most popular salt water lakes located in Ladakh. This saline lake has received international importance for being one of the most important wetland in South Asia. The Pangong Tso Lake lies between India and Tibet amidst Himalayas and is around 5 km wide. This Brackish Lake is known for its wide variety of Flora and fauna. Other than various migratory birds many wild animals are seen nearby the lake. The Pangong Tso Lake is a majestic beauty and should definitely be visited when in Ladakh. One can find this lake completely frozen during winters.
How to reach Pangong Tso Lake:
Pangong Tso Lake is around 160 km from Leh and one can reach here by driving down one of the most beautiful mountain road. The journey takes around 5 hours roughly. From Leh one passes through the Changla Pass and then through Tangste. A Inner Line Permit is all it takes to visit the lake. This permit is very important for producing to the Sino-Indian Line of Actual Control. Indian nationals can easily acquire this permit from Leh Tourist Office for a minimal fee. Tourists with travel package don't have to worry about such permits as their touring company arranges for it.
