About Ovalekar Wadi Butterfly Garden

Amidst the hustles-bustles of the Thane city, off Ghodbunder Road through the narrow pot-holed road you visit one of the most beautiful, eco-friendly places in Thane - The Ovalekar Wadi Butterfly Garden. The Ovalekar Wadi Butterfly Maidan is located amidst the lush green Yeoor Hills which add to its beauty and also provide the butterflies an great opportunity to pool around.  This is one the less frequented places in Mumbai, as very few are aware of. But still favorite among locales and nature lovers.

Ovalekar Wadi Butterfly Garden is a initiative by Rajendra Ovalekar who was inspired by the program conducted by Bombay Natural History Society and decided to avail the opportunity thus by converting his farm into a butterfly garden. Presently this garden has around 70 species of butterflies and you may be lucky enough to see more than 30 to 35 species of colorful butterflies.

The best part about this garden is that, unlike other butterfly parks the butterflies here are bred in natural conditions.(You actually get to see the whole life cycle demonstration).

General information you need to know when you plan to visit this park

- The park is open only on Sundays for visitors.

- Try to make it an early trip.

- Breakfast is provided by the park for an additional charge.

- You will need a lot of patience to be silent and not disturb the butterflies.

- Try to check out how they carry on the camouflaging part so hence to protect themselves from predators.

- Allow Mr. Ovalekar to guide you around the park, or you will feel lost. You need him to let you know about all the information that he can give you about the buterflies and their life cycle.

Timings: 7:00 am to 2:00 pm (only on Sundays)
